ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION VIS-A-VIS THE LEGAL PROFESSION IN NIGERIA

ADR simply put, refers to the procedures for the settlement of disputes by means other than litigation. For example, by the use of mechanisms like negotiation, mediation, conciliation, arbitration and host of other hybrid species. These alternative processes which are said to be less costly and more expeditious are increasingly being used in the United States of America in the handling of commercial and labour disputes, divorce cases, medical malpractice tort claims and in many other kind of disputes that would likely otherwise involve court action.
